La Pro loco di Matera “Tra storia cultura e tradizioni”, come associazione la cui mission si fonda sulla promozione del territorio della città dei Sassi e di quelli limitrofi, istituisce un concorso di idee finalizzato alla personalizzazione e realizzazione di n° 8 statue, denominate Cucù, da esporre in occasione dell’evento “CUCU’ PARADE”, che si terrà nella prossima primavera nella città di Matera ed in alcuni paesi della provincia (Montalbano Jonico e Policoro), al fine di promuovere nuove forme d’arte e di diffusione della cultura e delle tradizioni locali e per l’animazione dei centri attraverso forme di Land art innovative e di forte impatto emotivo. Viene preso come soggetto un fischietto, dalla forma di un gallo, che è stato creato a Rutigliano, ma che i pastori transumanti hanno portato e trasmesso in tutte le comunità della murgia apulo – lucana, tramandandola nei secoli. Un portafortuna che serve a proteggere dall’invidia, dalla malasorte, dall’affascino, dai cattivi spiriti, da tutto ciò che non si vorrebbe durante la vita. Un elemento, che se non ha attecchito in una comunità, non significa che non sia presente nell’immaginario collettivo. Elemento, il cucù, che gli stessi artigiani, ancora oggi, personalizzano a seconda che sia: un oggetto ornamentale, un segno di buon augurio, un giocattolo… Attraverso la “ Cucù Parade ” si vuole anche captare l’attenzione della gente e dei media all’interno di un contesto provinciale che vuole essere trasformato e ricreato, suscitando forti emozioni sia nella cittadinanza locale che in chi viene “da fuori”. I valori che si vogliono trasmettere, non sono soltanto quelli di una comunità locale che vuole uscire dai confini del quotidiano per perdersi nel bello, ma anche di un luogo, Matera, che vuole farsi conoscere in tutti i suoi aspetti nuovi e tradizionali. Una geometria dove si vuole comunicare, attraverso una vera e propria trasformazione, i valori locali nel mondo globale . Questa è la motivazione che spinge ad usare un elemento che con il tempo è diventato materano per captare l’attenzione del forestiero e portarlo a scoprire ciò che di tipicamente locale esiste lungo le strade urbane. La “Cucù Parade” vuole inserire, nel contesto urbano di Matera, una serie di statue, personalizzate da artisti, all’interno dell’urbanistica locale per stravolgere l’idea del quotidiano e trasformare il paese in una galleria d’arte a cielo aperto. La volontà, nello specifico, è quella di creare un percorso che traghetti le persone attraverso i luoghi più significativi e particolari, speciali, moderni e antichi, in modo tale da accompagnarle alla scoperta della città. Un percorso fatto di: statue, totem descrittivi dell’opera e dell’artista e che illustrano cosa vi è intorno e le specificità del luogo, della strada, così da dare informazioni sull’evento e comunicare a tutti le particolarità, degne di nota, della zona. ​Una sorta di viaggio alla scoperta di Matera e non solo, ma realizzato attraverso qualcosa che decontestualizza l’ordinario per renderlo straordinario.
